Same Block with Many Names

As I continue my Underground Railroad quilt class, the homework for this week consisted of the ‘Underground Railroad’ block.  I knew that it had another common name of ‘Jacob’s Ladder’.  Many blocks have different names, pending the era and the region.  According to WomenFolk.com, there are several other names for this same block: Road to California, Off to San Francisco, Gone to Chicago, Stepping Stones and Trail of the Covered Wagon. Do you know other blocks that have multiple names?

Each week, I continue to learn about the Underground Railroad through this class and I am still fancinated by the history behind each of these blocks.  Here are the blocks for tomorrow’s class:

  • Square 6: Shoofly (Right Bottom)
  • Square 7: Bow Ties (Right Top)
  • Square 8: Underground Railroad (Left)
