Two weeks ago, Jay McCarroll presented his new fabric line, Habitat, at our Philadelphia Modern Quilt Guild meeting. He kicked-off the Modern Quilt Guild Habitat Challenge. From the generous fabric package that each of us were given, we were challenged to create an original 12” block from various fat eights of his fabric and some FreeSpirit solids. Together, these blocks will become quilts for Japanese earthquake victims. Here is my completed block. In the spirit of the line’s nature – or habitat – theme, I created a modern leaf featuring 6 of Jay’s fabrics separated by the leaf’s veins. This block was fun to make into a large quilt. I can envision a bunch of leaves falling, as each block can be tilted slightly. This may be a perfect Fall project!
