The Quilting Progress

It is funny how we typically lump all elements of the design, cutting, piecing, quilting, and binding into the term quilting.  Rather, the quilting — the sewing of the top, batting, and back — is truly quilting.  Focused on the actual meaning of the term, this weekend was truly dedicated to free-motion quilting.

Last August, I started a Car Mat Quilt for Jimmy.  It contained some very dense quilting.  I pebbled the roads and textured the grass with the quilting.  It was taking hours — well, more like dozens of hours.  I eventually took a quilting break from the project and pulled it out again this weekend to wrap it up.  It is now awaiting binding.

Also this weekend, I completed the Floating Triangles quilt (Jaybird Quilts Pattern from Skip the Borders) with binding too!  More to come tomorrow with detailed pictures…

Besides quilting two quilts, the best quilt news this weekend was the discovery of another 1/2 yard of Moda’s Bella Black fabric in my stash.  The squares are cut for the next Floating Triangle Quilt.  My fabric usage this year is up to 7.5 yards of fabric with no new 2013 purchases.  Linking up with Judy of Patchwork Times.

  1. I like your floating triangles quilt – the black really makes the triangles pop!
