The Scramble

This past weekend, I went to my cousin’s baby shower.  It just happened that again, I worked on it until the last minute to finish it up by sewing the binding the morning of the shower.  Ever happen to you?

Anyways, the pattern is the popular Disappearing Nine Patch.  It has been in my bucket list ever since I saw a tutorial a couple of years ago by Rachel Griffith of p.s. i quilt blog.  Although it looks like a lot of piecing, it is actually super easy if you follow the steps provided in the tutorial.  The basic steps are creating a nine patch, cutting it up, rearranging the pieces, and sew them up!

The main fabric used was from Amy Schimler’s On A Whim 2 collection with the owls in earth tones.  I coordinated this fabric with other earthly tones and used Kona brown for a background.  I had fun with the background by piecing it with owls as the main highlight.  It would have been too busy with a solid background of the owl fabric, so piecing the back really helped complete this quilt.  Not only was it a scramble to finish, it was fun scrambling the blocks to have the layout be ‘random’, following some guidelines so no two similar blocks were near each other and the colors were evenly separated.

I will be linking up with Quilt Story – Fabric Tuesday.  I get a lot of inspiration by looking at the modern quilts linked on this site!  I will also be pinning this quilt on my Completed Quilts Board on Pinterest.  It is another site where the inspiration is endless.  Let me know if you are on Pinterest!

Phillies Stitch ‘n Pitch Night

On Wednesday, I went to the Phillies game with the Philadelphia Modern Quilt Guild.  The theme night was Stitch ‘n Pitch.  Within the section, there were groups of knitters and quilters working on small projects.  My intent was to complete the binding for my Gumball Quilt; however, I sat back and enjoyed the game.  They even had a giveaway of a Stitch ‘n Pitch bobble head:

Here is the quilt that I brought to work on the binding; however, no progress was made.

Rather, I hung out with my husband and some fellow guild members.  It was a great night — even with a win for the Phillies!

Dog Quilt # 2

I made a quilt for Dunder Dog for Christmas, after I found the perfect chocolate lab fabric.  Last weekend, I found fabric with a variety of dogs — one of which was a bulldog!  Since my sister-in-law has a bulldog, I immediately bought the fabric to make Henry a quilt!  His second birthday is on Wednesday, so hopefully, I will finish in time!  All the bulldogs are fuzzy cut — aren’t they cute?  Hopefully, I will be able to piece and quilt by Wednesday.

Updated Theme: craftedAngles

My blog is getting a new look.  This weekend, I have been attached to my computer finishing up my logo and updating my theme.  I still have hours to go resizing images for thumbnails for my various posts and picking my featured postings.  In the meantime, please let me know if you have any suggestions or tips! (Thanks in advance)
